Born in Athens in 1975, Kostas Tobros grew up on the Ionian island of Corfu, where he received his first painting tuition from Spyros Alamanos and John Dimitratos.

In 1995 he entered the Athens School of Fine Arts, studying painting and constructions under Irini Papaspirou, engraving with V. Kazakos and G. Milios, and the teaching of art. During his studies he took part in the Erasmus programme at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (V.S.U.P.) in Prague, working with Madela Matassova.

He graduated with distinction in 2001 and has lived and worked in Corfu ever since, alternating large-scale paintings with constructions, mural and three-dimensional works.

Portrait of Kostas Tobros
“I am drawn to the territory between the abstract and the narrative — where structure becomes the spine of a work and colour carries its form.”
